Apple has sold over seven million iPads in the December quarter of the year 2010, which is seventy five percent more than the previous quarter. But it is about to face the biggest competition with the Android based devices because there will be so many of them by this year. At Consumers Electronic Show Many giant hardware companies have promised to release there Android based tablets by the running year. But Tim Cook, the COO of Apple, has no concern with the upcoming devices and he reckons Android based devices as a bizarre device. On Apple’s earnings call cook said that at this moment Apple has two potential competitions one is big, heavy and expensive Windows-based tablets and other is bizarre Android based tablets. According to cook customers will not be attracted to Windows based devices as they have a weak battery life and require stylus or keyboard.
The other competitor that Apple has to face is the Android devises. Android is a software platform for smart phone devices developed by Google. Cook does not agree that Android operating system is not exactly designed for tablets. He named these as Scaled up smart phones. So, one cannot get a real tablet experience from these devices and enormous percentage of the total tablet customer will pick iPad rather than Android based tablets.
In contrast to these Apple has a very strong operating system to provide a better tablet experience. Besides Apples app store has a large stream of application and iPad users will be able to install these into their devices. As far as the next generation tablets are concerned Apple will bringing iPhone 4 later this year. So Apple has no fear to take part into a battle with anyone. Tim Cook said that Apple’s touch pad computer will be able to fulfill the demand for tablet computing.
